We are Sikkim IFFCO Organics, a joint venture between the State of Sikkim and the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO). We are proud of the fact that we are India’s first joint venture between a state government and a cooperative society in the Organic Value Chain. The shareholding pattern of this JV between IFFCO and the State of Sikkim is 51:49.
Sikkim is India’s first Organic Certified State, and this Joint Venture is an effort by both IFFCO and the state government to create an Organic Value Chain across the state to benefit and incentivize its farmers. We were formed with the idea of providing agro-inputs and promoting Organic Farming across India in general and Sikkim to be specific. We support the farmers throughout the Organic Value Chain and offer them guidance for each step, including activities like harvesting, processing, packaging, and marketing of the Organic produce from their farms.
Instituted with the noble aim of helping its farmers, our Vision is pretty simple yet powerful.To create Organic Value Chain in Sikkim and other upcoming Organic States of North East and doubling farmers income by enhancing productivity and value addition.
The mission of Sikkim IFFCO Organics is to ensure the availability of “Fully Certified Organic” produce to its customers as per their requirements. To do this, the institution aids the farmers in multiple activities such as ensuring Traceability of the produce, packaging, and marketing. It is the equal participation of the Government of Sikkim and its citizens, especially farmers, that has been a big step in restoring the delicate natural ecological balance using adopting Organic farming practices.
A well-known brand in itself, known for its work in rural India for the past 50 years, IFFCO has a reach of over 40 million farmers across the country. IFFCO is a multi-state cooperative society established by the farmers, for the farmers. With its diversified businesses catering to the farmers like Fertiliser, General Insurance, International Trading, Farm Forestry, Information Services, Commodity Exchange, Agrochemicals, Food Processing, and Retail Trade. IFFCO is the primary solution provider for farmers in India.
A supporter of Innovation, Government of Sikkim is the other major shareholder in Sikkim IFFCO ORGANICS. Sikkim has the distinction of being the first “Organic Certified” state in India. The initiatives of the Government have been endorsed by the Future Policy Award granted in 2018 by the FAO of the United Nations, World Future Council and IFOAM. The major commercial crops produced in the state are Large Cardamom, Ginger, Turmeric and Buckwheat.
